Hi Everyone!
This last year and counting has been the toughest for couples around the world. We have been forced to make changes, re-evaluate the planning process, and hold off on planning one of the most exciting days of your lives. It has affected all of us in different ways, but this is something that unites us and we want to be a source of comfort during these difficult times.
We hear you – you aren’t excited about the planning process anymore. You’ve had to make changes to your vision, and make concessions to your dreams. We know that you’ve been looking forward to this day for so long, and you just want it all to be perfect, but maybe you are overwhelmed and don’t know how to begin planning again. Maybe you’re afraid to get excited again, for fear of having to postpone, or make more unwanted changes a few months down the line. Sometimes, it just feels easier to take a pause and not think about it for a while, and we get that.
But now, it’s time to get back at it.
As a company that has been in this industry for so many years, and celebrated so many milestones with couples, we completely understand how hard it is to accept when things don’t go as we want them to, and how upsetting it is to have to make changes, especially when the future seems so uncertain.
Just know that you are not alone.
We want you to get excited about planning your wedding again, and we are here to help you get back at it!
Here are our Top 7 Tips to get your wedding sparkle back – after all, this should be one of the most exciting things to look forward to! There is so much joy to be had in the planning process, and we are here to help make it feel fun again.
Sometimes all we need is a little shift in mindset.
Although you’ve been through quite the rollercoaster over the last several months, that is no reason to give up. Getting to marry your best friend and confident is going to be the best feeling- something you both have undoubtedly looked forward to for quite some time. Don’t forget about the light at the end of the tunnel in this whole process. When you shift the way you think about things, you can really change your perspective for the better. Stop focusing on all the negatives you’ve had to overcome; instead, focus on the fact that you have overcome them together.
Make yourself a mimosa, put on your comfiest and most luxurious lounge set, put on your favourite playlist – get yourself in the groove to make planning fun for you. Light your favourite candle, change your laptop background to your favourite new photo of you and your love, and watch how quickly your spirits are lifted.
Whether that’s creating a dream PInterest board for your wedding florals, or online shopping for your bridal shoes, bringing yourself back to the things that really excite you about planning your wedding will make it easier to ease into the rest.
You’ll need to go back to your to-do list and reassess your timelines if you’ve postponed. What have you already accomplished? What things need to be done in the next month? What things can you get ahead of right now? Which things will make you feel happier about the process as a whole? What do you feel called to do at this moment? Asking yourself these questions will guide you towards your next steps.
We recommend you and your partner try out an activity together that will bring back the excitement for your big day itself. Together, start creating a list of your favourite first dance song choices, and then share why they resonate with you. Then, make a playlist with all of your top contenders and dance to them together in your living room to find the perfect match. Activities like this will bring you closer together, and will have you thinking more about the excitement of your wedding day, than about the journey to get there.
Although it is important to keep up to date on what is going on around us, it is crucial to not make it an obsession. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the negative noise because it exists all around us – on social media, the news, and practically everywhere you look. Once you are able to check in on updates without refreshing the page every half hour, the next important step is to detach from unhealthy conversations with negative people. Everyone has an opinion – especially when it comes to weddings – but during these times, the last thing you need is to be fielding constant questions and opinions from your loved ones. Typically, these conversations don’t leave you feeling better, right? You can shift the focus when this happens, or just let them know that you are not interested in discussing details at this time.
It is important to be able to vent and find support within a community of like-minded couples. Sometimes your friends and family, although their hearts are in the right place, may not be able to provide the best support system, because they can’t relate to your specific circumstance. Some great communities can be found online through social media – check in with our Instagram page for more drop-in Live sessions to come!
